Plymouth Waterfront Partnership would like to invite our Waterfront businesses to take action on the plastic waste that seems to be everywhere. Every year over 8 million tonnes of plastic litter enters the marine environment threatening wildlife, damaging our oceans and creating a problem that simply will not go away… it can take up to 1000 years for a piece of single use plastic to decompose.
We have teamed up with the city’s Interreg funded Preventing Plastic Pollution project, the Plastic Free Plymouth Waterfront campaign, Environment Plymouth, Plymouth Waterfront in Bloom and the Surfers Against Sewage Plastic Free Communities campaign to pilot a brand new set of Awards that will recognise the actions you can take to limit the global damage caused by plastics and celebrate your commitment to the local environment. If you take part you will be leading the way towards a scheme that will be rolled out across the city in 2022.
Some of you may already be Plastic Free Pioneers with the Plastic Free Plymouth campaign. If so, ‘Thank You’. We’d love to see what action you have already taken and support you in some renewed commitments. If you’re not already a Pioneer then this is your chance to take part… you’ll be in good company!
We now have four Award categories, each more challenging than the one before. The good news is that for simply taking the Plastic Free Pledge you’ll be a Bronze Award winner.
Everyone taking part will also become a Plastic Free Charter signatory with a certificate acknowledging your commitment.
All of the categories will be Awarded at a ceremony in December 2021 so you have until the end of November to get your entries in to us at plasticfreeplymouthsound@gmail.com
