Small Business Saturday, a national day of support for small businesses, will take place on Saturday 2 December. The event is designed to encourage shoppers to shop at local, independent businesses and help them thrive.

Plymouth Waterfront Partnership (PWP) is working alongside Plymouth City Council, Plymouth and Devon Chamber of Commerce and the Federation of Small Businesses to encourage everyone to ‘think local, shop local’ this Christmas, and throughout the year.

Small Business Saturday is a grassroots, not-for-profit campaign that is open to all UK small businesses to take part in. Originally founded by American Express in the U.S., the campaign has been running for over a decade and is the UK’s most successful small business campaign, with an impact that lasts all year round.

Over the time the campaign has been running in the UK, it has engaged millions and seen billions of pounds spent with small businesses across the UK on Small Business Saturday.

Kim Downer, Business Liaison Manager for Plymouth Waterfront Partnership:

“This year continues to be difficult for business owners with the cost-of-living crisis so we want to ensure that, as the BID, we are doing everything we can to support our levy payers. Small Business Saturday is another opportunity for us to showcase the unique, brilliant small businesses that support our local economy, provide jobs and make the waterfront a fun, vibrant place to visit, shop and explore.”

To kick start this year’s Small Business Saturday, PWP are hosting a breakfast networking event for bid levy payers to come together, network and chat through the opportunities and challenges of being small business owner over coffee and croissants at The Ship, on the Barbican.
